Data

  • Replication Data: The replication data and code for most of my published papers is available through the Harvard Dataverse. Please see my research page for direct links.
  • Mass Ideology of U.S. Geographies from 2000-2022: Updated cross-sectional estimates of the political liberalism/conservatism (ideology) of states, congressional districts, counties, cities, state senate and assembly districts based on my JOP article with Chris Tausanovitch on "Measuring Constituent Policy Preferences in Congress, State Legislatures and Cities" are available here. • Mass Ideology and Policy Liberalism of American States from 1936-2020: Updated dynamic estimates of the political liberalism/conservatism (ideology) of the policies and mass publics in each state from 1936-2020 based on my AJPS and APSR articles with Devin Caughey are available here. The original estimates from 1936-2014 of the political liberalism/conservatism (ideology) of the mass public and policies in each state are available here.
  • Mass Ideology of European Publics from 1981-2016: Dynamic estimates of the political liberalism/conservatism (ideology) of the mass public in each European country based on my APSR article with Tom O'Grady and Devin Caughey are available here.
  • Local Candidates and Election Results: The study of urban and local politics in the United States has long been hindered by a lack of centralized sources of election data. In this Scientific Data paper, we introduce a new dataset of about 78,000 candidates in 57,000 electoral contests that encompasses races for seven distinct local political offices in most medium and large cities and counties in the U.S. over the last three decades. This is the most comprehensive publicly-available source of information on local elections across the country. We provide partisan and demographic information about candidates in these races as well as electoral outcomes. This new dataset will facilitate a myriad of new research on representation and elections in local governments. Data is here.
